Admonition
About a fortnight ago, I was privileged by His grace, to prepare one of my spiritual children
for a Christian debate on the topic: “Whosoever is saved is saved forever.” He was
to support the motion. To the glory of God, he came first. But that is not the
issue. The issue here really is that in the course of preparation, we examined
the topic and found father Abraham a very perfect example of “whoever is saved
is saved forever” because of certain things he did and some others that later
happened to him.
When I first
became born again and started reading the Bible, I found it so hard to reason
out that a seventy-five years old man would embark on a journey whose
destination he didn’t know, just because of a promise. Reading further, I
discovered that having waited good twenty-five years to have a legitimate
child, and then he had to offer the poor boy as a sacrifice. At a point, he had
to bear with an insolent cousin. Then, he also had to move from one place to
another in search of comfort at one point or the other in time. All these were because
of a promise.
Today we all sing in our churches, saying, "Abraham's blessings are mine . . . ." But, can we do what Abram did? Jesus Christ,
in our anchor Scripture this morning told the Jews contending with Him that if
they truly were Abraham’s children as they claimed, they would do what Abraham
did. Now, what did Abraham do?
Abraham
BELIEVED! All he did was that in his dealings with God, he was a robotic zombie.
He never had a brain of his own, or maybe, he refused to use it, or better
still, he acted as if he had none, such that whenever God says, “Abraham do
this”, Abraham will rush in there to do it just as God said without questions,
even, without sharing the instructions with his darling wife. ABRAHAM FOLLOWED
GOD SHEEPISHLY! He was totally submitted to God’s whims and caprices.
That was
what the Jews of Jesus Christ’s days didn’t have. They were using Jesus’s place
of birth to determine whether He was the Christ or not, forgetting Psalm 115: 3
and 1 Corinthians 1: 27 – 28.
Brethren, no
one who wants or prefers to use his brain will ever FINISH STRONGLY with God. By
man’s standard, Abraham was a sinner, but the bible says, “And
he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” (Genesis 15: 6). So, in
FINISHING STRONG with God, WHEREVER HE LEADS, JUST FOLLOW, bearing in mind that
He can NEVER be wrong.
Till tomorrow
when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG
together, keep keeping on in Him!
Yours in
Him,
