LIVING IN HIS PRESENCE: You Will Flourish
Anchor Scripture: Psalm 24: 3
“Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?”
Focus Scripture: Psalms 92:12
"The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: . . . ."
Admonition
Greetings from the Throne of grace!
Arguably, one the most valuable trees created by God is the palm tree. It has been said to produce seven different products. Besides these products, the making of the palm tree itself speaks volumes. For example, the back of the tree is weather resistant and its root system ensures it's firmness in the soil, such that it is difficult if not totally impossible for any wind or storm to uproot the tree. More so, unlike other trees, the leaves of the palm tree do not wither; winter or summer.
All these characteristics mentioned above made me believe that the choice of "Flourish" as against "blessed" or "prosper", by the Holy Spirit this morning is quite deliberate. And it was meant to drive home what God says in both Proverbs 10: 22 and 1 Corinthians 2: 9.
Now, let's roll all these characteristics of the palm tree into our flourishing as we continue to live in His Presence.
The first noticeable thing about the palm tree is that it produces fruits irrespective of where it is located. Long as I have stayed in farm, I have never seen a barren palm tree; one that failed to produce fruits. The implication of that is that there is no way anyone would live in God's presence and not prosper or be blessed. I believe we still remember that when this series began, the Holy Spirit made it clear that as true children of God, wherever we are, God's Presence is there.
The second things we know about the palm tree is that it is made to be weather resistant. That's to say that the blessedness or prosperity of anyone living in God's Presence is independent of weather or seasons. You know in the world, apart from God, some people will say they are broke because it is not the season for their business. For a true child of God living in His presence, this should not be so; you're entitled to prosper all the year round, irrespective of whatever is happening in the world or the economic policies of the government of your country (Ezekiel 47: 12; Roman 8: 28, 31; Revelations 22: 2)
Also, as said above, its leaves does not wither. Likening your flourishing to that characteristics only mean that there can't be any calamity befalling your prosperity; it will be firmly secured in God in whom you live (Deuteronomy 28: 14) .
The firmness of the root system to the soil soundly suggests that the prosperity of anyone living in God's Presence will trascend them and be passed on to their generations, just like the palm tree because no storms of life will be able to either stop or erode such prosperity because it is firmly rooted in God (Proverbs 13: 22).
As we close this morning, as true children of God, we must also remember that the palm tree does not produce fruits the very year it is planted; it is not an arable crop. It is different from the other trees. The implication of that for us is the Scripture that says in Habakkuk 2:3, that, "For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." And the book of Isaiah 28: 16, saying, "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, . . . he that believeth shall not make haste."
Till tomorrow when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep keeping on in Him!
N. B. Please, pray that God, in Whom you live, shall make you flourish like the palm tree in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
