HOW TO TRULY WORSHIP GOD: Be Kind To Others
Anchor Scripture: Psalm 86: 9
"All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name."
Focus Scripture: "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." - 1 John 3: 16
Admonition
Wow! It is another Friday again! How time flies! I believe it's been another beautiful week learning at His feet again. May He keep us in Him and help us FINISH STRONG in Jesus' name. Amen.
This is our final lesson in the worship of God, at least for now; there are still things to say, but which my Teacher, the Holy Spirit of God, decided to keep for a later date. I pray He keeps us safe in Him till then, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Let us start today by saying that worship is a deep relational interaction between the worshipped and the worshipper which is often rooted in love. The involvement of love takes worship beyond the physical realm. It brings in both the spiritual and the emotional aspects of man's existential possibilities in worship because worship is not just a physical thing. And it brings us to the conclusion that any kind of worship that is devoid of outflow of love from the worshipper to the worshipped is not worship at all. It is the kind of superfluous thing that has no place in and with God. Our worship will be more acceptable to God if we worshipped Him just for the reason of Him being God and for a deeper desire to have more of Him, not because of any material gains attached to worshipping Him.
"any kind of worship that is devoid of outflow of love from the worshipper to the worshipped is not worship at all."
People have different orientations, based on different church doctrines, as to how to worship God. To many, singing slow music accompanied by slow musical instruments and lifting of "holy hands" is worship. To some, bowing their heads to the floor is worship.
"Love brings in both the spiritual and the emotional aspects of man's existential possibilities in worship; worship is not just a physical thing."
Very many Christians are unaware that they could worship God through their kind dispositions towards their fellow humans. Beloved brethren, every little act of kindness or love shown to our fellow humans is worship towards God.
"every little act of kindness or love shown to our fellow humans is worship towards God."
In line with our Focus Scripture this morning, the book of Proverbs 14: 21 says that it is a sin to despise our neighbours because they are poor. And verse 31 of the same Proverbs 14 reads, "He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor." You may recall how the Holy Spirit of God linked Obedience, Honour and Worship in our study yesterday. It, therefore, follows that if you honour God by being merciful to the poor, an act of obedience to His Word (Deuteronomy 15: 11), you are undoubtedly worshipping Him.
"it is a sin to despise our neighbours because they are poor."
Let us round off this morning by taking a deeper look into the book of Isaiah 58. There are many in the church today who go on long dry fasting and prayer by which they eat no food nor drink water all because they are seeking the face of God. And when they complained of God not minding or honouring their fast, God told them the kind of fasting He requires of His children. Thus verse 6 - 7 reads: "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?" Reading further down, we see that it is in doing the things mentioned in these two verses that we may find God for everything we are believing Him for.
Finally, brethren, let us know from this morning that there is God in every human we come across. The book of 1 John 4: 20 relates it thus; "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" Do we need to say more? Let's go out from today and start worshipping God by being kind to our fellow humans because we worship God because we claim to love Him.
"there is God in every human we come across."
Till Monday when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep keeping on in Him.
N. B. Please, pray that God will grant you the heart to love others as yourself in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
God bless you! Amen.
