LIVING IN HIS PRESENCE: Be Sure of Safety and Protection
Focus Scripture: “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” – Proverbs 18: 10
Admonition
Greetings from the Throne of Grace!
Permit me to
specially welcome you into the last part of the series, Living in His Presence, that we started two weeks ago. Here is a quick reminder of what the Holy Spirit has taught us in the last two weeks: in the first
week we learnt what it means to live in
His Presence and last week, we learnt what
to do to live in His Presence.
This week, our
Teacher, the Holy Spirit of God, will be taking us through the Benefits of living in His Presence. And today,
we shall be examining the first benefit of living
in His Presence, Safety and
Protection.
As espoused
by our focus Scripture this morning, our safety as children of God is in Him,
as a Father. If there is anything God specializes in, and He specializes in so many things, it is protecting His own children from evil. His promises as regards our safety and protection are numerous and too sure to be ignored if only we live in His presence by "remaining at home" as we learned under the "Avoid Condemnation" series. (If you missed that series, kindly search for it in this blog).
I once told a congregation that God is bigger than whatever anyone could tell them about Him. Even if we aggregate everything that everyone of the four billion people in the world know about Him, He is still bigger than that. That is why it would be foolhardy for anyone not to find their refuge in Him because He can never be filled up.
And not only is He just a Refuge, He is even very, very strong and dependable. The 24th Psalm, whose verse three we have been using as Anchor Scripture in the last two weeks, in verse 8, calls Him, ". . . King of glory. . . , The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle." Also, our Anchor Scripture this morning calls Him, "a strong Tower". And the book of Jeremiah 20: 11 says He is "a mighty terrible one. . . ." Who will feed our persecutors with their own flesh and make them drink their blood as wine. Now, to really prove His terribleness, He could manifest as a fire to our enemies, and burn them up as said by Deuteronomy 4: 24, and as a "consuming fire", Deuteronomy 9: 21 says He shall go before us to consume our enemies. The Holy Spirit just quickly added now that it does not matter whether the enemies are physical or spiritual, or whether they are human or spirits. He will consume them, whatever they are or are made of. Of course, He made them (John 1: 1 -3) and in Jesus Christ, they all stand together as one (Colssians 1: 16). And even if it is the devil himself, God made a provision for him already in Christ Jesus for it is written in 1 John 3: 8b thus, "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."
Now, how do we know we can trust all these that the Bible says about Him? His infallible Word, in Numbers 23: 19 testifies to the dependability of His promises saying, "God is not a man that he should lie. . . ." And He has never said before but refused to do it. For that, the book of Lamentations 3: 37, says He is the only One that says and that it comes to pass. Finally on the dependability of His promises, He himself testifies about Himself in the book of Isaiah 46: 9 -10, saying, ". . . for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:"
Brethren, before we close this morning, I will tell you something you might not know about me: I am a very pragmatic person with very independent mind. So, I didn't just became a Christian and a believer overnight because somebody preached to me, it was a serious battle because I demanded that He convinced me of both His existence and potency in so many situations, and He did severally, in very many amazing and awesome ways that I will be sharing with you in the course of our FINISHING STRONG together. Afterall, the Bible says, "iron sharpens iron" (Proverbs 27: 17). My experience with and of God is the reason I have always emphasized that individual Christians need personal experience with God before finally concluding that they are children of God.
As we close this morning, the Psalmist didn't just call God his rock, refuge and fortress (Psalm 18.2, 31: 3, 71:3, 91: 2 and 142: 2). He knew how God saved him, first from bears and lions, then Goliath, King Saul and even his own brothers during his growing years. There is no surer refuge from whatever than the God Almighty. All we need to do is TRUST, TRUST AND TRUST IN HIM FOR HE NEVER FAILS!
Finally this morning, please, to avoid sorrows upon sorrows, don't go about looking for safety and protection anywhere else for He says in His word in Psalm 16: 4a thus, "Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god:" I pray this will not be our testimonies in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.
Till tomorrow when we shall meet
again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep
keeping on in Him!
…………………………………………………………………
N.B. Please, pray
that God will strengthen your faith in Him more and more in Jesus
Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
