WAIT UPON THE LORD: Let God Have His Way

Admonition
Greetings from the Throne of Grace!

One of the facts the Holy Spirit has established in this series this week is that we may not necessarily fast and or pray in waiting upon God (1 Samuel 1: 9), but follow the underlining principles which are the meanings of waiting upon the Lord. Somebody once said that “when we pray, it should be because we wanted God’s answer, not our own answer.” However, the reverse is the case with most Christians today as we always come with a list to God and all we want Him to do when we say we are waiting upon Him is to just stamp our requests.

However, our God knows the end even before the beginning (Isaiah 46: 10), and as our focus Scripture says this morning, the road that we think is the best may actually be the worst. This is the essence of allowing God to have His way. In our series last week, we were admonished to “Be His Disciples”, and one of the attributes of the Master which is regrettably lacking among Christians today is His unreserved submission to the will of the Father at all times (Matt. 26: 39; Luke 22: 42).

Therefore, when we have the attitude of coming to God with a list of what we want and we say we are waiting upon the Lord, it often amounts to self-deceits because our hearts are often made up in most of those circumstances. For those for whom that grace abounds, God will not answer them according to their wish list, but give them His own will or He may not even answer them at all.

The Bible admonishes us in Philippians 2: 5 to have the mind that was in Christ Jesus. One of the characteristics of that mind is submitting totally to the whims and caprices of God. God sees it as a symbol of humility. It is part of being lowly, humble or poor in Spirit (Matt. 5: 3).

As we close this morning, practically, to wait upon God should mean our readiness to allow Him to have His way in whatever matter we are bringing before Him. Allowing God to have His way, which most times run contrary to ours is a proof of our readiness to FINISH STRONG in and with Him. Adam disallowed God from having His way; he lost the golden opportunities in the Garden of Eden. However, Abraham, David, Job and a host of others who waited upon Him truly and allowed Him to have His way all ended well and FINISHED STRONG. May God grant us all a heart of understanding in Jesus' name, amen.

Till tomorrow when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep keeping on in Him.
