UNDERSTANDING THE WILL OF GOD: Try These Litmus Tests
Anchor Scripture: Isaiah 55:8
For my thoughts are
not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”
Focus Scripture: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are
of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” – 1
John 4: 1
Admonition
Greetings from the Throne of Grace!
There are
many holy spirits in the world today, but there
is only ONE Holy Spirit of God. I have had to argue or contend (so to say)
with some people who did say that a single Scripture could have several
interpretations depending on how the “Holy Spirit” interprets it to the user.
Brethren, I tell you today that that is another lie that the devil is using to
deceive his followers who maraud as men of God or preachers of the Word. If
you ask me why I said so, I will ask you when God started to double-speak
because my Bible takes a pertinent position in 1 Cor. 14: 33, saying, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the
saints”.
Brethren, many
people have been led into avoidable errors and their lives destroyed simply because
they followed either the instructions or the counsels of their Pastors,
Prophets or whatever they call themselves who are often led either by their own
flesh or deceived by the devil. That is why you may need to pay serious
attention to what God is about to say today for you don’t need to fall into avoidable
errors before realizing it and you don’t need to continue to live in avoidable
errors of some BIG MEN of God that make you abominable to God.
"You don’t need to fall into avoidable errors before realizing it and you don’t need to continue to live in avoidable error"
The first test to know whether something is
the Will of God, or not, is His Word. That is, test that thought, that piece of
advice or whatever, in the light of His Word. The Psalmist, in Psalm 119: 105, says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” That
is exactly what the Word of God is and what it does is to illuminate darkness. So,
how can you test anything in the Word of God? Simple: check in the Word whether God said so or promised it. If you can’t
find anything of such in God’s Word, then, it can’t be God’s Will because Psalm
138: 2c says, “. . . for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” And God also says in Psalm 89: 34 thus: “My
covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” For
example, is it God’s Will for you to prosper, YES; several Scriptures say so. But is it God’s Will that for you
to prosper somebody else must cry as the world says that “if somebody’s life
doesn’t get destroyed, someone else’s life can’t be better”? The answer is NO. That will amount to what Psalm 73
calls, prosperity of the wicked. So,
if God did not say it, or promised it, IT IS NOT GOD’S WILL.
"If you can’t find something in God’s Word, then, it can’t be God’s Will".
The second test to
know whether something is the Will of God or not is whether that thing contradicts the nature of God. And the ONLY nature
of God under consideration here is HOLINESS.
If what you are thinking or intend to do or you have been advised to do
constitutes sin, then it can’t be the Will of God and the aftermath wouldn’t
please God. We will take our example right from inside the Bible. In Genesis 16:
1 – 3, Sarai, Abram’s wife, gave Hagai, her maid to her husband as wife. Abram
didn’t ask God whether to do it or not, he just went ahead and did it. Ordinarily, what he did contradicted God’s
nature and establishment; it was a sin. So, when it boomeranged and he called
upon God for instruction, God asked him to go on hearkening to Sarai, who
advised him to do it in the first place (Gen. 21: 8 - 12).
"If what you are thinking or intend to do or you have been advised to do constitutes sin, then it can’t be the Will of God"
As we close this
morning, permit me to say again that it is not everything you hear from a man
of God that comes from God. In 2 Chronicles 18: 18 – 22, seventy-two prophets
prophesied lies. Like the Holy Spirit said in a book, Praying the Right Prayers, that He inspired me to write, sometimes,
we don’t even know whether the “man of God” is still standing right with God or
not because many are actually living in
past glories. Therefore, LET US KNOW THAT WHERE ONE TAKES THE ADVICE IS VERY,
VERY IMMATERIAL, AS LONG AS ANYONE CONTINUES TO DO THINGS THAT ARE NOT GOD’S
WILL, SUCH CAN NEVER FINISH STRONG. I pray that won’t be our testimonies in
Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
"It is not everything you hear from a man of God that comes from God."
So, always follow
what our Focus Scripture this morning says, test every spirit and know whether
they are of God. Test, test and re-test!
Till tomorrow when
we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together,
please, keep keeping on in Him.
N. B. Please, pray (provided you have been baptized
into the Holy Spirit) that the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truths (as
regards any area you are believing Him for) as promised by Jesus Christ (John
16: 13). Amen.
God bless you! Amen.
