MAKING YOUR LIGHT SHINE: Be Honest In Your Conversations

Anchor Scripture: Matthew 5:16
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Focus Scripture: "I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost," - Romans 9:1

Admonition
Greetings from the Throne of Grace!

Last week, the Holy Spirit reminded us that we are a peculiar people, the Royal Priesthood and a chosen generation (1 Peter 2: 9). Then, He went ahead to admonish us on how to assert our peculiarity, one of which was "making our lights shine." (Mat. 5: 16)
"we are a peculiar people, the Royal Priesthood and a chosen generation"
As rightly espoused by our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, no light is ever hidden (Mat. 5: 14). There is no way a light will be somewhere and people will not notice it except as brought out for us by the Holy Spirit last week, the light has perfectly blended with darkness. But like our Master, we are called to displace darkness (1 John 3: 8) and not be friends with it.
"no light is ever hidden"
One of the major ways we could refuse to blend with darkness and make our lights so shine that people will give glory to God as admonished by the Master is by having honest conversations always. The people around us must be able to take our words for anything they are meant. In other words,  our words must be our bond at all times. When we speak, regardless of the context and the prevailing situation under which we speak, the hearers must be able to rely on what we said as being the truth.
"The people around us must be able to take our words for anything they are meant."
Apostle Paul, while admonishing the Romans on one occasion said "I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost," (Romans 9:1). Yeah!  That is what it means to have honest conversations: to say the truth (in Christ), and nothing but the truth, but with a conscience that is firmly rooted in the Holy Spirit of God. The truth of the matter, beloved brethren, is that, it is difficult, if not totally impossible, to have the Holy Spirit and still be telling lies. It simply means the person isn't what they claim to be. Or maybe, they decided to take their lives from Jesus Christ for that period of time and use it for them to return it later. But I tell you, that is a very dangerous game to play for a child of God. What if the devil struck at that point in time? One would have then allowed ignorant people to blaspheme the Holy name of our God.
"it is difficult, if not totally impossible, to have the Holy Spirit and still be telling lies."
In one of the past series, we were also admonished never to swear. That was the Master's command. Rather, we should let our conversation be restricted to "yea" and "nay", (Mat. 5: 37) nothing more! It is then left for our hearer to either believe or not. But as long as we have spoken the truth in Christ with a conscience rooted in the Holy Ghost, we have nothing to worry about. We must not try to convince anyone that we are saying the truth by flippantly calling the name of God or of His Christ. That would constitute a sin.
"we should let our conversation be restricted to "yea" and "nay","
As we close this morning, we, as true children of God must always remember that lying is contrary to the nature of God and His Christ. The only personality to whom lying is ascribed in the Scriptures is the devil. In fact Jesus Christ called him, the father of all lies (John 8: 44). And there's no honesty in lying. The two are opposites. That is why anyone who would not have honest conversations as admonished by our Focus Scripture this morning is not of God, and may never FINISH STRONG. I pray that will not be our testimonies in Jesus' name. Amen.
"there's no honesty in lying. The two are opposites."
N. B. Please, pray that God will forgive all your past dishonest conversations and give you a new heart that says the truth in Christ at all times in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.

Till tomorrow when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep keeping on in Him!

Jesus Christ loves you!
