DEVELOPING THE MIND OF GOD: Watch Your Company

Anchor Scripture: Amos 3: 3
"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"

Focus Scripture: "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." - 1 Corinthians 15:33

Admonition
We were taught on Monday to humble ourselves before God because it is in humbling ourselves that we make ourselves teachable and show our readiness to know Him, just as He is.

After humbling ourselves, and God begins to reveal Himself to us, we need to watch the company we keep because as rightly put by our Focus Scripture this morning, our good nature could be rubbished by bad friends.

I do tell people who call themselves children of God that if your friends before you became born-again are still your friends after your expected newbirth experience, the simple interpretation is that old things have not passed away, but have remained and nothing has become new. The reason for this is in 2 Corinthians 6: 14c which reads thus,  "and what communion hath light with darkness?" Brethren, it is at this point that many people who got born-again are were ready to follow Christ Jesus missed it. I pray God will give us understanding in Jesus' name. Amen. But the point being made here is that you won't be the one to chase them away, but as it happens practically, the light in you after your newbirth experience will repel the darkness in them if they are not ready to turn into the light.

In the first part of the book of 2 Corinthians 6: 14, God gave us an express command, saying, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? . . . ."  The truth the devil doesn't allow young converts to know is that as soon as anyone WHOLEHEARTEDLY accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, they become the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 1: 17, 2 Corinthians 5: 21).

The stories of Rehoboam, Solomon's son (1 Kings 12: 1 -17; 2 Chronicles  10: 1 - 17) and Ammon, David's son who, being egged on by his friend, raped his own half-sister (2 Samuel 13: 1 - 18), are very instructive here. While Rehoboam never FINISHED STRONG in God like his grandfather, David, Ammon too, expectedly, never did as he got killed by Absalom, Tamar's brother. The Holy Spirit raised a warning here that the devil will come with lies that will frighten you about leaving your old pals, he would remind you the good times you once had together, the places you visited together and many other "good memories" you shared and there is a danger there ahead if you refuse to let them go. But I  tell you by the Holy Spirit this morning that they are part of your old things that MUST pass away!
"the devil will come with lies that will frighten you about leaving your old pals,"
As we round off this morning, let me say this that the bane of many people's salvation is the company they keep because their friends kept pulling them backwards on the journey to the Kingdom of God because they too are not yet ready to let go of them and be fully committed to their new calling.
"the bane of many people's salvation is the company they keep"
Finally beloved brethren, no one who keeps the wrong company has or can have the mind of God and as our Anchor Scripture has rightly put it, two people with different minds can never walk together. Let Galatians chapter 6 verse 7 continue to turn itself in your mind that "Be not deceived,  God is not mocked.  . . ."
"two people with different minds can never walk together"
Till tomorrow when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep keeping on in Him.

N.  B.  Please, pray that God will put a wall of separation between you and every company that could rob you of your salvation in your life in Jesus Christ's mighty name Amen.
