DEVELOPING THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD: Bury Yourself in the Word

Anchor Scripture: Hosea 4: 1
"Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, . . . nor knowledge of God in the land."

Focus Scripture: ". . . I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food."  - Job 23: 12

Admonition  
In my close to eighteen years in the Ministry, and in all the existing popular ministries where He had used me to teach His Word, one thing that appalls me has always been how little people that call themselves children of God, that claim to love and (be) serving God know about God. Conversely, it has always amazed me how much these people know about the histories of their churches, the founders and pastors who have worked in the church. It made me conclude that the people in the church today are, just maybe, a little better than the Athenians of Apostle Paul's days in Acts 17: 16 - 33, who were serving (an) unknown God until he opened their eyes to the truth. Really, I don't blame people who are like this because they are just victims of selfish indoctrination that emphasizes man, man's rules, and their principles and philosophies, above God.

Sometimes ago, I heard God clearly saying that many pastors won't make heaven just because either knowingly or unknowingly to them, they are the ones their congregations are worshipping, not Him, God. Likewise that some members too won't make heaven because they have allowed themselves to be led astray by their founders and Pastors. Via indoctrination, some Christians have been made to believe that God is a mystery, and therefore, can neither be known nor understood by man. Therefore, the "God" many people in the church today are made to see is either their founder or the pastor. That is the reason the song in the mouth of many Christians today is their church doctrine.

Beloved brethren, God is neither a mystery nor hidden from us. Our God is a very plain God who really wants us to draw closer to Him. His eternal purpose for creating man is to be man's companion; to live with man and be all over man, day and night. It was the error in the Garden of Eden that partitioned or separated us from Him. But out of His sheer love for us, that purpose will eventually be achieved at the end (Revelation 21: 3).

There was a message, "The Manufacturer's Manual", breathed on me from above which I preached in public buses for months sometimes ago. The gist of the message is that every man is like an electronic gadget that came with a manufacturer's manual, the Holy Bible. And that very few people, most of whom regret at the end, do operate their electronics without first going through the manual that came with it. A detailed manual you may agree with me will contain some important details about the manufacturer as well as how to operate the gadget.

That's exactly what our Bible is, Our Creator's Manual for the operation of our lives here on earth, and it contains very many important details about God, our Father, and our Creator. The onus, however, is on us to ensure that we read and understand it. Like electronics, no manufacturer goes to the house of a consumer to force them to read the manual or help read the manual to them. Likewise, God won't come to our homes and force us to read the Bible (Genesis 6: 3), and He won't come and read it to us. He has done what every manufacturer does; He gave us The Manual.

"Our Bible is Our Creator's Manual for the operation of our lives here on earth, and it contains very many important details about God, our Father, and our Creator."

As we round off this morning, I have observed that many of us marvel at the history of Job; his travails, and eventual triumph. We wonder how he weathered that demoralizing and dehumanizing  storm. But he provided us with an answer this morning in our Focus Scripture, saying, "I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." We will know and understand God and also be more effectual in our walk with Him if we develop the attitude of Job; like His Word more than our food. God and everything we need to know about Him is in His Word. If we must develop the accurate and effectual knowledge of God, we must bury ourselves in His Word. Thank God for theologians, but the fact remains that there is nothing any man can write or tell you about God that could be more than His testimony about Himself in His Word.

Finally, the requirement for us to bury ourselves in the Word is from God Himself (Joshua 1: 8). It will then be foolhardy for anyone to do otherwise. God explicitly expressed Himself to us in His Word. That is why He said anyone that looked for Him will find Him. There is the need for every Christian to become like Job, to love His Word more than our necessary food because it is the prerequisite to walking with Him and to also, FINISH STRONG.
